Following extensive lobbying by local Councillors and myself, I am delighted that Welling has been selected to gain a banking hub.
There are currently no banks in Welling High Street which is why we have been campaigning for a local banking hub providing counter services by the major banks in one hub in Welling.
We recognise the significant reliance local businesses and residents place on local banking services, particularly elderly and vulnerable residents and I am also concerned over the potential implications for safety and security without in-branch services. I am therefore sure that the announcement that Welling has been earmarked for a banking hub which offers customers access to their bank accounts, deposit cash and cheques, and money withdrawals will be warmly welcomed by both local residents and businesses.
I would also like to thank the Welling Traders and Discover Welling for their ongoing support and work to improve Welling.
I will continue to monitor the progress of this banking hub closely as well as continue to campaign for wider access to cash facilities in our constituency including in Bexley Village, Sidcup High Street and Blackfen High Street.
