In his first week as Member of Parliament for Old Bexley and Sidcup, Louie has delivered on 4 commitments he made during his election campaign.
Firstly, after a successful career working in financial services in the City of London as an award-winning sustainable portfolio manager, Louie has resigned from this job after his election victory. This was a promise Louie made to constituents throughout his election campaign and allows him to solely focus on serving the constituents of Old Bexley and Sidcup.
Louie has also delivered on his promise to give up his allowances as a Councillor for Falconwood and Welling whilst he continues in this post until the local elections next May, saving Bexley taxpayers’ money.
In addition to this, Louie was pleased to be able to deliver on his promise to constituents to work to tackle illegal immigration and people smuggling this week by voting for the Nationality and Borders Bill. The Bill deters illegal immigration by speeding up the process of removing those who have no right to be in the UK, introducing new maximum life sentences for people smugglers, stopping illegal arrivals gaining immediate entry into the asylum system if they have travelled through a safe country and increasing the maximum sentence for illegally entering the UK.
Lastly, Louie has spent his first weekend as an MP supporting local businesses and community groups by attending ‘Christmas in Bexley’ events in Bexley Village, Danson Park and Halfway Street. Louie joined in with the festive fun as well as speaking with local businesses about future support for our high streets and shops.
Commenting, Louie said:
“Standing up for the people of Old Bexley and Sidcup will always be my priority and it is an honour to be able to deliver on these promises I made during my election within my first week as MP.”
“Throughout my election campaign, I consistently promised to constituents that I would not hold a second job should I be elected. I therefore resigned from my job immediately after my successful election result in order to solely focus on delivering on the priorities of local people.”
“During the election, constituents across Old Bexley and Sidcup raised concerns with me about illegal immigration and I was therefore pleased to vote for the Nationality and Borders Bill, which will deliver the fundamental changes needed to tackle this issue. Voting for the Bill is standing against the people smuggling gangs, introducing tough life sentences and speeding up the removal of those with no right to be in the country, including foreign national offenders, whilst supporting those in genuine need via safe and legal routes.”
“I was delighted to end the week with festive cheer by supporting ‘Christmas in Bexley’ and local businesses. I would like thank all the local volunteers and shop owners for arranging great community events and I look forward to working with them in the future.”
