Louie French visited the Barclays Local service at Christ Church in Sidcup this week as part of his ongoing campaign to secure banking and cash services in the Old Bexley and Sidcup constituency.
The Barclays Local service can offer help to Barclays customers with digital banking, making a plan for your money, reducing your outgoings, opening an account, lost or damaged cards, payment of bills, transfer of funds and international payments. The local Barclays Team runs this support service every Wednesday between 9am-1pm and you can book an appointment here: https://events.uk.barclays/local/search/
Louie was disappointed when Barclays closed in Sidcup last year but welcomed that they committed to providing these Barclays Local services in Sidcup, which is more than some other banks have done since closing.
Louie used the visit as an opportunity to discuss Sidcup’s and the wider community’s banking needs, particularly following the recent announcement of further bank closures on Sidcup High Street. Louie was pleased to secure commitments from Barclays to work together to help expand financial support to more local people in the constituency. This includes looking at options to expand their Barclays Local services to other locations in the constituency and support for a Banking Hub in Sidcup, in addition to their service for the Welling Banking Hub coming soon.
The local campaign to secure banking facilities in Sidcup continues, with ongoing conversations taking place between Louie, the banks, Cash Access UK, LINK and Sidcup Partners. This week this has seen Lloyds and Halifax announce they are delaying their branch closures until July 2024.

“I fully recognise the importance of local banking and access to cash services in Old Bexley and Sidcup and I was pleased to see first hand the service the excellent local Barclays team can deliver to customers at this facility, alongside discussing the need for greater banking services in Sidcup and other locations such as Bexley Village.”
“I will continue to push for further banking improvements in our area, but in the meantime I would encourage Barclays customers to use this Barclays Local service to ensure this facility remains open and to show that there is sufficient demand in Sidcup for further banking services to be provided by both Barclays and other banks.”
