Louie French, Member of Parliament for Old Bexley and Sidcup, has supported in Westminster the Veterans Advisory and Pensions Committees Bill, which facilitates the provision of additional support to a wider group of veterans and allows Ministers the flexibility to adapt the support that is available to veterans as circumstances change.
The Bill expands the power and support of the Veterans Advisory and Pensions Committees, which has already played a vital role in Bexley by providing advice and support at a local level to some of the 4,958 veterans in Bexley.
Louie welcomes that this Bill reflects the Government’s drive to make the UK the best place to live for the whole Armed Forces Community, which is something Louie wholeheartedly supports as a keen supporter of the veteran community and as the President of the North Cray and District Royal British Legion.
In his support of the Bill, Louie made two speeches in the House of Commons welcoming the provisions of the Bill and the importance of “ensuring all veterans and their families receive the support they deserve after they have made such honourable sacrifices for our country and safety.” Furthermore, Louie was a member of the Committee for the Bill to ensure the Bill’s effectiveness and passage through the House of Commons.
