Louie has written to the Mayor of London urging him to stop his plans to expand ULEZ to Bexley on the behalf of the 4,882 people who signed his petition against Khan’s ULEZ expansion proposals.
As part of his response to the consultation on the ULEZ expansion, Louie expressed the strength of local opposition to the proposals and the significant impact the plans will have on local people, families and businesses, particularly at a time when there is already significant pressure on household finances.
In his letter to the Mayor of London, Louie asserted that the plans ignore the nature of places like Bexley which have significant differences to inner London areas, including the high levels and dependency on car ownership and the limited public transport connectivity relative to Central London.
Louie also outlined his concerns over the lack of evidence on the improvement of air quality in outer London boroughs like Bexley from a ULEZ expansion and set out alternative ways to improve air quality, such as a properly funded scrappage scheme, more electric vehicle charging points, improving public transport and reversing cuts on bus services and children’s cycling training in Bexley.
Commenting, Louie said:
“I would like to thank everyone who has signed and continues to sign my petition against Sadiq Khan’s plans to expand ULEZ to Bexley and Greater London.
I will continue to ensure the views of my constituents are heard and stand up against this £4,500 per year tax raid on local drivers which is another attack on outer London boroughs and a way to fill the black hole the Mayor has made in TfL’s finances, despite generous bailouts from the Government and an 8.8% increase in his share of Council Tax.”
