Louie French has met with HSBC to express his continued disappointment and concern over the decision to close the HSBC branch on Sidcup High Street from 9th August 2022.
At the meeting, Louie expressed that he is concerned over the impact of the branch closure given the significant reliance local residents and businesses place on local banking, particularly vulnerable and elderly residents. In particular, Louie expressed his concern over the impact of the simultaneous closure of the Eltham branch which is also used by Bexley customers.
In the meeting, HSBC outlined the services they are currently providing to customers in the lead up to the closure, including contacting all contacting all customers that only use in-branch services and conducting in person discussions and helping these customers with online, telephone and Post Office banking.
HSBC have advised that accounts held at this branch will now be administered from the Orpington branch which is the nearest alternative branch. There are also HSBC branches at Bromley, Woolwich and Dartford and HSBC customers can access their bank account at Post Office branches for cash withdrawals, cash deposits, cheque deposits and balance enquiries.
Commenting, Louie said:
“I remain extremely disappointed and concerned over the decision to close the HSBC branch on Sidcup High Street from 9th August 2022.”
“HSBC assured me that they are providing a various range of support to customers, particularly to those who do not currently access online or telephone banking, including 'Banking Beyond Branch' sessions. If any constituents would like me to raise concerns and seek specific support on your behalf, please do let me know.”
“More widely, I will continue to campaign for greater access to cash for constituents including more cash points in Welling and a new ‘Bank Hub’ providing counter services by the major banks in one place.”
