Speaking at Prime Minister’s Questions, Louie French asked for the Prime Minister’s support on delivering a top priority of his and local residents for securing extra investment for Queen Mary’s Hospital.
In his response, the Prime Minister thanked Louie for all of his work and support for Queen Mary’s Hospital and welcomed that the Hospital received £800,000 funding last year and hoped it will benefit from the £1 million funding awarded to the local NHS trust to improve technology services.
Louie welcomes the new services and facilities Queen Mary’s Hospital has delivered in recent years and hopes to build on this by increasing the range of valuable services available for local patients. New facilities have included the Guy’s Cancer Treatment Centre where patients can receive both chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments in outer South East London for the very first time, preventing the need to travel into Central London. In 2018, the hospital opened new state of the art facilities following £30 million investment, including new facilities for out-patients, women’s services, musculoskeletal therapies, cardiology and improvements to the Urgent Care Centre. This was coupled with the opening of the Meadowview Intermediate Care ward, the Holbrook specialist dementia ward and a new Children’s Development Centre. New dental and ophthalmology facilities also opened at the end of 2019. More recently, the Hospital welcomed a new digital scanner in 2020 and 2 new operating theatres in 2021 to help reduce waiting lists for patients awaiting routine procedures.
Louie will continue to work with Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, the Health Secretary and the Government to deliver extra investment and services for our local hospital.
You can read Louie’s question to the Prime Minister and the Prime Minister’s response below:
"Securing extra health services at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup is a key priority for local residents, as it is for me, as the first home-grown MP for Old Bexley and Sidcup. Will the Prime Minister support me in delivering this extra investment for our local hospital and join me in thanking all the staff at Queen Mary’s for their incredible efforts?"
Prime Minister:
"What a joy it is to welcome my hon. Friend to his place; the joy seems a bit confined on the Opposition Benches. I thank him for his work and support for everybody at Queen Mary’s Hospital, which he and I campaigned for, for many years. Last year Queen Mary’s received £800,000 of funding and I hope that it will benefit further from the £1 million funding awarded to Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust to improve technology services across its estate."
