Old Bexley and Sidcup MP Louie French today demanded that the Mayor of London and Transport for London address the wrongful fines handed to hundreds of drivers during the botched A20 road works.
Mr French signed a joint letter with neighbouring Conservative MPs Laura Trott and Gareth Bacon, saying the fines were "deeply unfair" and had "completely unacceptable" consequences for unknowing drivers. Incorrect signage has led to unfair penalties for drivers and the loss of some licences, impacting people's livelihoods and causing stress and anxiety as drivers battle in court.
The speed limits were restored in autumn last year following work by Louie French MP and Thomas Turrell AM to end the botched road works.
Louie French MP said: "Until the Mayor of London and Transport for London come clean about the mistakes made during the botched A20 road works, drivers will be left paying wrongful fines, some battling in court, and others unfairly without a licence.
"I know it's impacted many people living in Sidcup and beyond. It's shameful that there's still no explanation as to how it went so wrong or redress for those impacted. That's why I signed this joint letter demanding justice for the hundreds impacted. It's also why I'm backing Thomas Turrell AM's campaign for an independent investigation."
