Louie French has been elected the first homegrown Member of Parliament for Old Bexley and Sidcup receiving 11,189 votes at Thursday's by-election representing 51.5% of the vote.
Louie fought a positive campaign, focused on delivering for the area he has called home all of his life. Louie expressed that he will work tirelessly on the priorities of local people and delivering on the promises that he made during the campaign. This includes getting Bexley’s fair share of London’s police officers, securing more investment for local schools and hospitals, protecting precious local green spaces and standing up to Mayor of London Sadiq Khan Outer London Tax plans.
At the count, Louie wore the rosette of his late friend, James Brokenshire whom he paid tribute to stating: “James fought for the people of Old Bexley and Sidcup everyday and made an enormous impact on everyone who lives here, and I will work tirelessly to build on everything he achieved.”
In his victory speech, Louie said:
“Tonight we made history together, by becoming the first homegrown MP for our area. This is the greatest honour of my life and I hope that it inspires people to achieve their own dreams. Bexley is the borough of aspiration, community, hard work and people wanting to get on in life. These are also the conservative values that inspired me to enter politics and to serve both my community and country. Thank you everyone once again and I wish you all a Merry Christmas”
