Our local community are hugely supportive of Remembrance weekend and honouring our fallen heroes, and I would like to thank everyone who arranged and supported all of the excellent events across the constituency. I did my best to attend as many events as possible, and the number of services in Bexley featured on my Facebook and Instagram pages hasn't gone unnoticed by colleagues in Westminster who now fully understand why we were recently voted the most patriotic constituency in the country!
It was a great honour and a privilege to lay wreaths at memorial services across Bexley including the War Memorial in Sidcup, the War Memorials in Bexley Village and North Cray, and the Scout Tree Memorial in Bexley Woods.
I also had the privilege of reading from the Gospel of Matthew at the Borough Remembrance Sunday Service at St. John's Church Sidcup, as well as attending the Sidcup and Foots Cray Royal British Legion President’s Poppy Dance, attending the East Wickham and Welling War Memorial Trust's Festival of Remembrance, and leading out Sidcup Rugby Club with the Chairman of the North Cray and District Royal British Legion in a match that helped fundraise for the RBL. I also supported a special Remembrance service in Danson Park where a tree was planted as part of the Queen's Canopy project and had the honour of planting a tribute on the behalf of people in Old Bexley and Sidcup in the House of Commons Garden of Remembrance.
It remains just as important now as ever to remember all those who served our country and paid the ultimate price so that we can enjoy our freedoms today.
