Louie French, Member of Parliament for Old Bexley and Sidcup, has welcomed a multi-year funding boost from the Department for Education for Special Education Needs and Disability provision in the London Borough of Bexley.
The £30m funding for education in Bexley will help increase support and SEND places in Bexley schools (primary and secondary), which have continued to see an increase in demand from local families. The funding will also help provide more opportunities for supported internships for older students and resources for early intervention.
Commenting on this news, Louie said:
"This is really fantastic news for local families across Bexley and it will have a positive impact on special education outcomes for students. Bexley has a strong track record of expanding specialist provision and school places in the Borough, but demand has continued to rise.
I would like to say a big thank you to all the Ministers and officials at the Department for Education that have worked with Bexley Council and Conservative MPs to deliver this funding for local families".
Councillor Richard Diment, Bexley's Cabinet Member for Education said:
We are delighted with the further improvements that will possible as a result of our agreement with the Department for Education, which will be in place for the next six years.
Thanks to the agreement, we will be able to continue to improve our services for children with special educational needs or disabilities and ensure that enough school places are available locally for pupils with additional needs.
Our aim in all this to help all our young learners to reach their potential.”
